Restaurants and Kids

In 1. David Scott Peters, Of Interest, Operations, The Numbers

As a group of my Elite Members and I were having lunch together the topic of opening a new restaurant in an area with a lot of families came up. As the conversation continued, one of the members told a story of how she new of some independent restaurant operators who did just that opened in a new restaurant in an area where there are a lot of families with kids.

That was certainly was not amazing, that happens everyday. What made our mouths drop was the fact that this restaurant operator did not want kids in their restaurant. They in fact went out of their way not to have high chairs!

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Heck QSR Magazine published an article on talking about often 80% of parents choose where they’re going to dine with the family solely based on what their kids want. (You can read the article here.)

Being kid friendly may be the key to your restaurant making money. Just think about what a missed opportunity for most restaurants if they don’t want the family business.
